How GAT cut the test cycle time of ecommerce business Golden Scent by 50%

We caught up with the luxury ecommerce business Golden Scent,  to find out how GAT had helped them reduce their test cycle time.

Improve your test cycle time

The company

Golden Scent is the leading Saudi Arabian luxury beauty e-commerce platform focused on the MENA region, offering the largest perfumes and cosmetics library worldwide.

Aymen Wafa is the QA Lead at Golden Scent, and is personally responsible for the quality experience of the website and app which oozes the same premium feel of their products. “If we had any quality issues it would impact our reputation, and the bottom line,” explained Aymen.

The challenges

  1. QA bottlenecks causing release delays
  2. Difficulty delivering a premium international experience
  3. Verifying local payments

“There were multiple reasons we started looking for a crowdtesting company” said Aymen. “Some of the test cycles were taking too much time…it was taking too long to deliver our testing.”

Aymen explained that needing to test their iOS app, Android app, and website on multiple devices in multiple countries meant that simple tests could be complex. That’s especially true where localized payment gateway updates were required, such as work around the Mada card in the Saudi Arabian market. But their testing also had to be stringent – to sell top-end luxury products, you need a “luxury” ecommerce experience.

“This market is very competitive”, stressed Aymen. “Being behind on feature development or product quality can lead to loss of market share. So we have to stay competitive.”

Global App Testing was able to cut test cycle time by 50% for Golden Scent

“Our testing used to take 3-4 days,” said Aymen. “Now it takes 1-2 days. You’ve cut our test cycle time by 50%.”

That’s because Golden Scent were delivering tests which should be simple but ended up being operationally complex. That included:

We delivered the devices they needed

Golden Scent had to test their app “on at least 10 devices”. Not only did Golden Scent have to buy or rent devices, but it created a glut of old devices they needed to maintain or sell. With GAT, Golden Scent got access to a device pool of well over 100,000 devices.

We took testing to critical countries

Aymen said that “Golden Scent has customers in Saudi Arabia, but also UAE, Kuwait, Oman, and a Global Store.” GAT has testers available in all of the target countries to access at the touch of a button and enables Golden Scent to find local testers without any hassle at all. GoldenScent also launched a login with one-time-passwords last year, they were able to use Global App Testing to test that SMS notifications were coming through in practice. It turned out that in some locations, the SMS was not coming through – something that GAT’s geographical capabilities helped to suss out.

We undertook payment testing with real cash movement

Most outsourced testing providers can struggle to offer payment testing, which is a legal and operational hassle. Global App Testing had testers able and willing to move cash with the correct kinds of bank accounts within their 100,000-strong crowd. Not only they were able to test payments with standard cards and banks, but also with Mada cards, as well as Tabby and Tamara instalments options.

An integration between Global App Testing, TestRail, and Jira, helped Golden Scent to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of existing processes

Golden Scent doesn’t just use the straightforward version of Global App Testing. They use Global App Testing <> TestRail <> Jira. That means they can:

  • Launch test cases built in TestRail directly into Global App Testing platform
  • Use TestRail’s superior analytics to examine tests run through GAT
  • Export bugs directly as Jira tickets

“Without the integrations, there would have just been a lot more manual work,” said Aymen. “You would have to download all the test cases from TestRail, reformat them in a way that the GAT software could handle, and then import them into the correct format. With the integration set up, it’s so much easier. You can launch test cases out of TestRail with a few clicks.

‘Integrating Global App Testing with JIRA and TestRail streamlined our bug reporting, improved collaboration, and enhanced workflow management by centralising bug tracking in JIRA and test management in TestRail. These integrations increased efficiency through automated updates, real-time visibility, and comprehensive reporting, enabling better decision-making and higher productivity. It ultimately ensured a holistic approach to quality assurance, leading to faster issue resolution, enhanced test planning, and improved overall software quality. If you’re a TestRail or Jira user, you should definitely make sure you’re set up on their integration”, Aymen said. “It’s a huge time saver.”

Today, GoldenScent.com has the world’s largest fragrance library, covering more than 20,000 products from perfumes to home fragrances, aromatherapy, beauty products and more.

“I would definitely recommend Global App Testing,” said Aymen. |It's very good for improving the test cycle times, and we cover a lot of scenarios, a huge range of devices, every OS and browser we need. If you have to test anything locally, it’s much better than going in-house.”
